I feel like a father of 11 wayward children

Hey everyone! I want to focus on some good stuff this week so you’re just gonna get hit with happiness.

Successes of this week

  • got home teaching and visiting teaching to be a conversation

Home and visiting teaching are really difficult nuts to crack here because members feel like it is impossible to implement in Sierra Leone. They just haven’t read Handbook 2 on how it is actually supposed to be done. Which brings me to…

Our mini missionary-led branch council meeting on Wednesday got people looking in Handbook 2 for what they are supposed to be doing.

  • legit refreshments after branch council meeting

Nothing due to us but we had nice rice and apple cedar after our 2-hour branch council meeting. Necessary since most people come to church without having eaten in the morning.

  • got branch quarterly report and made plans to fix some crappy percentages

That was part of our zone conference training. Honestly, I had no idea this was a thing but the Church is pretty genius for coming up with it. It shows us exactly what the weak points of the branch are so the Spirit can direct us in our efforts more easily. The four of us serving in Gbondo Town branch spent Sunday afternoon discussing what we can do to help the branch progress in four areas of weakness. We have some pretty sweet plans.

Now for the less spiritual but just as important stuff:

I had a drag race with Elder Correia at the Bo East stake center parking lot. I was in a van and he was in a truck. I smoked him. That’s that.

At our baptism, the branch president answered his phone while someone was in the font. He was witness. He didn’t stop talking for like 10 minutes. Same convert that was baptized at that time started undressing right outside of the font when he was done.

We made a TON of pizza on Wednesday before the meeting. Zero recipes except for the dough. Everything scratch. A lot of experimentation, particularly with the sweet Korean sauce we made for a fajita pizza. Interesting stuff. The taco pizza turned out well too. Then we made cheesy breadsticks with the extra ingredients and of course we dipped it in the tomato sauce. I’ll send pictures when possible. Lots of viruses on these computers and I’m hesitant to hook my drive up to any of them.

After church on Sunday, the four of us visited our new standard chapel that is nearing completion. So cool! I think we will worship there next week. Funny story coming. We were messing around at the generator house kind of trying to pick the lock with a paper clip and Elder Weber spazzed out and somehow he did it by having a seizure and not applying any finesse at all. Definitely the coolest thing to ever happen in my presence in my entire lifetime. Don’t mess with that dude.

I am looking forward to seeing some changes happen here in Gbondo Town. I hope you all have a wonderful week!

I will also be very happy about full proselyting! I sent a proposal to president Clawson that may keep me very busy until I finish my mission.

Sorry about not sending emails the past couple weeks. Both times I have not had the time I needed when the power went off and the generator would not start so it was impossible to do anything.

Love,

Elder Brimhall
