We had a wonderful Christmas eve service at church. It was only sacrament meeting, but it was so spiritual. I really don’t know what the difference was aside from the power of Christmas. President and Sister Clawson visited us for it, my first time having the mission president in my sacrament meeting.
Later in the evening, I video called my family through Google Hangouts and it was amazing. My mother’s parents were able to join the call as well since my family was spending Christmas at their place.
We had our epic Christmas party of a cheaply decorated baby tree someone cut down, Christmas music from my knockoff JBL speaker I bought for 15 bucks, bacon cheeseburgers, and root beer floats. 11 other missionaries joined me in celebrating the Savior’s birth the Salone-American way. [notice half the fan cover is being used for part of the “tree” stand.]
I got a wonderful package the Thursday after Christmas with tons of letters from friends and family. A lot of them were probably from those of you reading this. Thank you so much for making my Christmas a bright one! It really inspired me to do better in a week where I wasn’t feeling super motivated to be a missionary.
On Friday, my companion and I went on exchange with our District Leader, Elder Mbuva, who is also serving in our ward. I went with his trainee, Elder Maeva from American Samoa. We had a good time together and I felt like a real missionary again! We taught some great people, notably these two young brothers in a less-active family who really want to be baptized despite their RM father’s bad influence. Hopefully their upcoming baptism will be an awakening for him to come back to church.
Sorry there isn’t much to report this week! I haven’t been good at writing down everything that happens so I don’t have much in my head when I get to this point in the week. But I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and I wish you a very happy New Year!
